🚗 Getting There & Around

Santa Cruz is the island’s main transport hub, making it incredibly easy to reach whether you are staying in the sunny south or arriving from the northern airport. Strategically located, the capital is just a 15-minute trip from the historic streets of La Laguna and only 30 minutes from the iconic Puerto de la Cruz. Whether you are driving or using the excellent public bus network, the city is perfectly positioned for a day trip or as a base for exploring the north.

From Tenerife South (Reina Sofía – TFS)

By Bus (Guagua): Take the Aeroexpress 110 (direct) or 111. These modern, air-conditioned buses run every 30 minutes and take you straight to the Santa Cruz Interchange (Intercambiador).

By Car: A straightforward 45-minute drive via the TF-1 motorway. Parking in the city centre is best at the large underground car park beneath Plaza de España or near the Auditorio.

From Tenerife North (Los Rodeos – TFN)

By Bus (Guagua): The Aeroexpress 20 connects the airport to the city centre in less than 20 minutes, with frequent departures throughout the day.

By Car: Just a 15-minute drive via the TF-5 motorway. It is the quickest gateway to the capital.

❓ Santa Cruz de Tenerife: Essential FAQs

Is Santa Cruz de Tenerife worth a visit?

Absolutely. It offers a «big city» atmosphere with a relaxed island pace. It’s the perfect counterpoint to the tourist resorts of the South, offering authentic culture, world-class dining, and incredible shopping.

When is the best time to experience the Carnival?

The main celebrations take place in February. It is considered one of the best carnivals in the world, second only to Rio. If you plan to visit in 2026, be sure to book your accommodation months in advance.

How do I get from the city centre to Las Teresitas?

The easiest way is by taking the 910 bus from the main interchange (Intercambiador), which runs every 10 minutes and drops you right at the beach.

Can I visit Santa Cruz and La Laguna on the same day?

Yes, and it is highly recommended. The two cities are connected by a modern tram (Line 1) that takes about 25 minutes. You can spend the morning exploring the historic streets of La Laguna and the afternoon enjoying the shopping and waterfront architecture of Santa Cruz.

What is the best way to travel from Santa Cruz to La Laguna?

While you can drive, the Tram (Tranvia) is the smartest choice. It’s cheap, frequent (every 5-10 minutes), and saves you the «headache» of finding parking in the narrow historic streets. It drops you at La Trinidad, just a 2-minute walk from the historic heart.

Where is the best place to park in the city centre?

The most convenient option is the large underground car park at Plaza de España. It is centrally located, secure, and puts you within a 2-minute walk of the main shopping district and the seafront. If you are visiting the Auditorio, there is also ample parking right next to the venue.
